Te’ron Hobbs, the Inheritor of Artistic Genes
Coming from a family with abundant artistic talent, Te’ron Hobbs was gifted with creativity, and she is the one who decided to share their potential with the world for the good of everyone.
Artistic DNA
Atlanta native Te’ron was raised by a single mother who granted her the chance to taste different types of art.
She started off with dancing and so fell deeply in love with it that she was called a “Baby Beyoncé.”
Then it was basketball, which was also entertaining, but she went back to and stuck with dancing throughout high school.
But amidst of dancing and playing basketball, she had always been into art of drawing, painting, making potteries, and being creative.
“I’ve always been into art. Any art classes, I would love. I was into anything really creative. I just love all forms of art, so I was always trying to figure out if I really liked it, or if it’s just something that just happen to be there.”
Since childhood, Te’ron was big on expressing and depicting her feelings and what was on her mind, which is why she was attracted to art.
“Different expressions that everybody holds in their art. I just connected to it in a different meaning and feeling as a child. It kept me happy every time.”
Because of her tendency to demonstrate her imaginations, young Te’ron had always gotten in trouble.
She reminisced to the time she and her older sister made a huge mess by trying to recreate what they had seen in a movie.
“We’d just got done watching “Snow White,” and we wanted to make it snow. So, we got a beach towel and put a baby powder. We were in our playroom, and we were flaking! The whole room and we were covered in baby powder. My mom came in there like, ‘What are y’all doing!’ and it was like, we wanted to make it snow!”
She was a troublesome kid, but she claims that she got the creativity from her family.
Young Te’ron used to have her eyes glued to her mother and grandmother when they were getting dressed up and styling themselves.
“Growing up, watching my mom and grandma’s different styles and how they dressed made me want to play dress-up… So, when I started dressing myself, it was literally all patterns, prints, colors. I became expressive. I wanted to be that bright thing that everybody sees.”
Her mother and grandmother each have their own taste in styling, not only their fashion, but also their house.
With the artistic gene running in the family, they express themselves by changing the interior, and her mother also used to plan and design the most memorable parties for Te’ron and her sister when they were kids.
“My grandmother changes around the house for her boredom. She’d change her interior, the colors in the house, and that’s the same with my mom. Her whole house is from Ross, but you would think it’s from some high-end place, but no.”
Unfortunately though, nobody in her family got to show the world what the gifted artistic gene had to offer, so Te’ron decided to do it for the family.
“I feel like I have to express it for my family, because they wanted to, but they had to grow up in a different way. Their main thing was to go to school, get a job, but that’s not me. I want to express myself and show what we can do.”
Inside Out
Te’ron’s motto is to share what she has with the world, whether that is her talent, style or kindness.
With this mindset, she came up with the name “Myinsideout” for her business, which means the world gets to see little pieces of her in every aspect through her art
She is extremely unique and vivid that she refuses to force herself to be put in a box, working under a company.
“I don’t want to be under a certain company and be tidying clothes that don’t represent me like solid colors, plain. I just don’t feel like that’s me.”
Knowing her potential, Te’ron officially made her business in 2015 by making and selling bracelets at her mother’s job.
“I sold over 300 bracelets at that job. It took me no time to make them. Now looking back, it’s some ugly bracelets, what was I doing! But I sold over 300 bracelets, $10 each. It was so crazy!”
Off to a good start, she branded herself as an entrepreneur, which turned out to be tougher than expected.
Lacking business knowledge, she has always wanted a partner who could take care of the business side while she takes care of the creativity.
But it was tough having a business partner. People she trusted took her concepts, business names and ideas.
These unfortunate experiences taught her lessons. They strengthened Te’ron and helped her determine that she can and should do it by herself.
After figuring out how to run a business, she also had to learn to confront people that are trying to work with her for free.
She has been often approached by people that loved her work but did not wanted to pay for her time, dedication, effort and creativity.
“You got to know your worth and that your art is valuable, and it takes time, and you need to get that time paid. You need money to invest in yourself.”
Scarred from people stealing her works and taking her crafts for granted, she ended up putting herself in a bubble and turned her back on the world.
But soon, she realized that people can steal her work how much as they want, but they can never envision or express the way she can.
“I know my idea will get taken, and I know that it’s going to happen regardless of what it is, but nobody’s going to execute it like me. Nobody. Nobody’s going to do it like how I feel.”
Despite all the obstacles, Te’ron is still pursuing her dream, because of her passion and love.
“It’s all about passion and love. I think money will come but showing the passion and love I have behind what I do could really help other people figure out what they want to do in life.”
Through her crafts and Myinsideout, she is giving herself to the world, letting people know that it is ok to chase after your passion.
Unfinished Projects
As creative as she is, Te’ron is consistently working on hundreds of projects.
Her work ethic is to not to force herself to be creative.
“When the moment comes, I’ll sit and create something, but if I’m not feeling it at the moment, I’ll stop, let it sit and wait.”
She has tons of projects she has already started, but she is extremely excited about a particular one: The Garden collection.
It started in 2017, when she found a small bag at a thrift store, and among the random stuff in the bag, small plastic grapes have attracted her.
Instantly, her creativity kicked in.
“I picked it up and thought it’d be cute in little earrings. It started from there. So, I was always looking for different fruits, trying to see what’d look best on the ear, and I started beading some of the fruits, so that was the start of the whole collection, beaded fruits.”
She diversified the types of fruits and used her skills acquired from metalsmith class to specialize her fruit earrings.
Now, she is obsessed with the fruit line, that she plans on expanding it as a garden collection.
“I’m also not just sticking to fruits. Garden’s filled with all things. You have herbs, greenery, flowers, vegetables. It’s really going to be a garden collection.”
Her ultimate goal with Myinsideout is to be everywhere – clothing, jewelry, home accessories etc. – and that applies to the Garden Collection as well.
Beginning 2020, she will introduce the new layout of the fruit line, and she is already buzzed with excitement.
“Being able to see myself in everybody is the best part, because that’s all I’ve been trying to do. Show a little piece of me in you! People wearing this just makes me happy, and I just can’t wait for the rest of the world to wear it.”
