NFL Receiver Tyreek Hill is on the Hot Seat for Alleged Abuse
Superstar NFL receiver, Tyreek Hill, has been suspended from the Kansas City Chiefs from all team activities due to allegations of child abuse and child neglect of Hill’s three-year-old son.
The suspension comes after a shocking audio tapes surfaced of Hill calling his fiancee a bitch, and she described in the audio how their son was terrified of Hill. Allegedly, the NFL star at times would punch his son in the chest. There are even reports that the child now has a broken arm due to the abuse.
This is the second major suspension of a Kansas City Chiefs player in the last year. Before the 2018-2019 NFL season ended, Kareem Hunt was cut from the Chiefs roster after a video surfaced of him kicking a female in a hotel hallway.
Looking past the fact that Hill may have thrown his NFL future away, if the allegations are proven to be true, why does he feel abusing his child is an acceptable form of discipline? It is no secret that African American households are operated sometimes with physical reinforcement as punishment. Maybe when Hill was a child, he was subjected to physical abuse and he now appears to abusing his own child.
Regardless, of any possible childhood trauma Hill could have suffered, unfortunately, it still is no excuse for this situation. Tyreek Hill not only destroyed his superstar NFL reputation and career, but his family as well. A financially stable family with a two-parent household was taken for granted, and now there might be serious ramifications for his actions.
On May 2, 2019, Hill’s lawyers gave a statement denying all charges and allegations. The letter specifically states that his son was “examined and released without any indication that the accident that broke his arm was caused by Tyreek or contributed to by Tyreek, or that Tyreek was even somehow involved”.
No matter what future Tyreek Hill may have, this is bigger than football. The health of a three-year-old boy and the child’s mother are at stake. Hill also threatened his fiancee verbally in the audio tape. He can be heard telling his fiance, Crystal Espinal, that she needs to be terrified of him too, and using other expletives in his violent rage.
What is the next step for Hill? Will he attend spouse counseling, anger management, therapy or something else? Although, we cannot say for sure, we can be certain that he may have just cost himself an NFL opportunity, and possibly lost his family in the process.
