Grant Park Barbershop Owner Goes Beyond the Clippers
In the heart of Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia, lies Sideline Cutz. To the average person passing by on their way home, it is just a barbershop. However, to Morris Smith, Sideline Cutz not only represents who he is, but also is a daily reminder of the success he has achieved.
Smith, commonly known as Mo, started cutting hair when he was in high school. Smith went on to graduate from Stillman College in 2005, while building up his barber clientele and becoming a member of the nationally renowned Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
In the early 2000’s, the economy was so tough that even with his degree, it was very difficult to find jobs. Although the internship route didn’t work in his favor, Smith didn’t let that stop his grind. He focused on making another source of revenue for himself, and put his efforts into becoming an entrepreneur.
After graduation, he opened up his first shop in 2005. Smith’s relentless hustle and desire for more led to him owning four shops, having two in Alabama and two in Atlanta. He soon realized that it was very difficult to manage four shops by himself, so Smith downsized to one shop in Atlanta, which is now Sideline Cutz.
Smith credits college with giving him a structure, and helped him improve his organizational skills that benefits his business today. Outside of cutting hair, Smith is also a licensed real estate agent and invests in various ventures.
