Ayesha Curry’s Red Table Talk Appearance Leads to Controversy
Ayesha Curry became the talk of social media for several days after her appearance on Red Table Talk, produced by Facebook, on May 6. Red Table Talk is a show that discusses a variety of topics, hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris.
On this particular episode, Ayesha Curry discussed many of the insecurities, she faces as a married mother of three children. Her husband, Stephen Curry, is a superstar NBA player for the Golden State Warriors. Ayesha came on the show with the purpose of being honest, instead she got slandered all over social media.
While discussing her challenges of seeing other women approach her husband, Ayesha said, “Something that really bothers me, and honestly has given me a sense of a little bit of an insecurity, is the fact that — yeah, there are all these women, like, throwing themselves [at her husband him]. But me, like, the past 10 years, I don’t have any of that. I have zero — this sounds weird — but, like, male attention, and so then I begin to internalize it, and I’m like, ‘Is something wrong with me?”
Needless to say, the video clip of Ayesha saying this went viral. It got millions of views on Twitter, and resulted in her being the subject of memes, jokes and ridicule.
Immediately after she became the topic of discussion, harsh tweets were put out making fun of the Curry’s marriage, even predicting that Stephen would turn into a wife beater like Ike Turner if he saw Ayesha’s TV comments.
Moving past the social media ridicule, was Ayesha Curry right to express the intimate details of her marriage to the public eye like that? Regardless of your opinion, nobody should be shamed for having the courage to share their insecurities. It isn’t far fetched to think that Ayesha might struggle sometimes with being an NBA wife.
However, what if the roles were reversed? What would happen if Stephen Curry went on a male talk show and stated that he doesn’t get enough female attention?
Chances are that he would be getting his name dragged through the mud much worse than his wife, or will be lauded and praised as a man deserving more sexual advances from other women!
Hopefully, the Curry’s marriage can recover from Ayesha’s mistake on Red Table Talk. Ayesha’s Red Table Talk interview is a lesson for everyone that some things do not always need to be shared. One should be honest, but everything is not meant to be expressed out loud.
