The demise of Tekashi 6ix9ine
Tekashi 6ix9ine is a perfect example of why you need to be true to who you are. This 22-year-old rapper put on a false representation of himself, and aggravated people who associated with a gang lifestyle. He broke up families, friendships, and his own life as well.
Rising to fame as an unorthodox rapper out of New York in 2017, 6ix9ine reached unprecedented heights in 2018 largely due to his social media antics. In a short amount of time, he established beef with fellow artists such as Casanova 2x and Chief Keef, the latter would help catalyst his downfall.
6ix9ine portrayed a rap image of a gangster, hitman, reckless individual all while claiming to have gang ties with the Nine Trey Bloods. Unfortunately, at the end of the day it is just not him. Since 2015, he has been plagued by a federal child sex charge. Receiving four years probation would have caused most people to appreciate that blessing, considering that the child sex felony charge demands a minimum 10-year probation sentence and potentially 15 years in prison.
Fast forward to 2018 and he faces federal racketeering and firearm charges, mostly coming from situations with him and the same Nine Trey Bloods. In an interview with the Breakfast Club, a popular radio show, Charlamagne tha God, radio personality, warned Tekashi about the image he was displaying on social media, and how he needed to be careful with putting out so much negativity.
The warnings against his behavior did not work, and in February 6ix9ine pleads guilty to nine counts of racketeering, firearms and drug trafficking. These charges alone would put anyone away for an extremely long time, and this is where the false reality comes into play.
Two weeks later, in an interview with DJ Vlad, Sara Molina, Tekashi’s baby mother, revealed the agreement that the rapper made with authorities. This agreement stated that he “truthfully disclose all information of the activities of himself and others to the U.S. attorney’s office”. The agreement further states that if the rapper cooperates fully, he will not be prosecuted for any crimes committed in the nine counts in addition to any other crimes he confessed.
One of the most shocking discoveries Tekashi admitting in his agreement to being the brains behind a murder-hit put on the life of rapper Chief Keef. As a result of his cooperation, he will receive no prison time, yet the shooter in the Chief Keef situation will more than likely get sentenced.
Whether you view his actions as a great marketing tool or just plain stupid, he negatively affected lives around him. Trying to fit a mold that was never him to begin with, Tekashi permanently destroyed his image.
It is always frowned upon in the hip-hop community to be a snitch, but now that he is a documented criminal informant, there is no coming back. Many wonder if he will face consequences for snitching but only time will tell.
